Where I stand on the following issues:
Second Amendment Rights
I am a Constitutionalist. I support the Second Amendment and Delaware Constitution Article 1 Sec. 20. We need to focus on keeping weapons from dangerous people.
I believe prevailing wage is vital to keep government from creating a downward spiral on middle class wages since government contracts go to the lowest acceptable bidder. The problem is that it has no relationship to market wages in Delaware. The prevailing wage should be market based. Reform is essential if taxpayers are to get their money’s worth. We are overpaying in the 9 figures for capital projects.
I want to keep them under control, I am pledged not to raise them the next two years, but focus on spending reform. They are essential for our quality of life, but too high of a level in taxation kills growth, initiative and innovation. They need to be kept as low as reasonable. I believe Delawareans are taxed enough, but we need real spending reform. I support the Ken Simpler spending reform agenda.
Education, Regulation 225 – Transgender Student Rights
I reject that 225 is about Transgender rights. It is more about the political Gender Identity movement. It tramples on Parental rights and the well being of children while destroying discipline in the schools. You can ensure transgender students use a bathroom and not be bullied without social engineering.
On real education issues, I reject the Smarter Balanced Assessment. I am skeptical of Common Core. I believe in local control and parental involvement. I support choice, especially charter schools, keeping home schoolers free from Common Core and more regulations. I also strongly support our district public schools. I reject district consolidation, but I heartedly support back office consolidation. I support our teachers. I want more dollars in the classroom, more teacher autonomy, fewer standardized tests and surveys, and less paperwork for them.
Every abortion stops a beating heart, therefore it is tragedy to be avoided. As far as what the state is allowed to do, I support informed consent, parental consent and a day to think it over. I believe that late term abortion is an affront to civilized society, and Delaware needs to rejoin the civilized world and reject abortion after 20 weeks. Only 7 nations allow it out of 193. No tax money should go to abortion except to save a life. I would cosponsor the Richardson Pain Capable Unborn Child Act. We need to create a society where children are valued, motherhood is cherished, fatherhood is respected, and family matters.
I respect life at every stage from conception to natural death. I also believe in justice. Therefore, I am torn with this issue so my position is that we should mend it not end it. There are obvious problems that need to be fixed. My belief is that it is unjust for the man who murdered my cousin by stabbing him then cutting him up, tossing his body in trash bags and putting it for pick up to be walking the streets in less than 10 years. It would be unjust for Bin Laden to have more consideration than the victims. When people like the Floyd killers felt they had nothing to lose, the prison became more dangerous. There is a place for the death penalty. We are safer and have a more just society with the judicious use of the death penalty.
Doctors should aid their patients not kill them. We need to respect innocent human life from conception to natural death. This takes us back to the very reason for the Hippocratic Oath. We do need to work to improve comfort care, counseling and pain management for those suffering from both chronic and terminal conditions including medical cannabis.
